Story of John Keells Research

John Keells Research was established in December 2012 with a small multidisciplinary team and conducted its R&D activities entirely in collaboration with Universities and Research Institutes in Sri Lanka as well as overseas. We continuously strive to build new strategic partnerships.

A significant milestone of the evolution of John Keells Research was reached in 2016, with the filing of a Patent for a novel energy storage material that was developed through the research project undertaken in collaboration with the Council CSIR-NML, India.

John Keells Research is the R&D and Innovation arm of John Keells Holdings

In January 2017 JKR relocated its office and set up a Laboratory at the Technology Incubation Centre at the Nanotechnology & Science Park in Pitipana, Homagama. The Laboratory has greatly enhanced JKR’s capabilities allowing it to conduct certain projects in-house, thus ensuring sole ownership of Intellectual property by JKH.

The end goal of all scientific research undertaken by John Keells Research is to develop Intellectual Property which can be commercialized. As such, we view each research project as a commercial opportunity to be leveraged by JKH and its commercial partners. All the technologies (in Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, and physics & Electronics)& that are ready for commercialization are available for potential licensees/investors.

By relocating to the Nanotechnology & Science Park, JKR intends to contribute towards the creation and growth of an ecosystem within the park that could drive Science and Technology based innovation in the country to the next level.
